Myths abound that make affiliate marketing overly appealing and extremely attractive. Stories of how some affiliate marketers make humongous amounts of money online are everywhere on the internet. Some of them are absolutely true but just how this money was made is often highly embellished. So much so that even new internet marketers “think” that it was done overnight and with little effort!
Nothing could be further from the truth. Internet marketing is indeed financially rewarding but it is also hard work; not in the sense of a 9-5. Although affiliate marketing is very lucrative those who earn large sums of money understand from the very beginning that there are no shortcuts to earning money online. It is a process that they take seriously and follow through on religiously. They learn early that earning money as an affiliate can be done but it isn't without knowledge, work, commitment, and determination.
Ignorance of this fact is one of the main reasons so many people fail miserably in creating a long-lasting, successful internet business. Those who fall prey to the myths offered concerning earning easy money online spend money again and again and again looking for the next best resource to help them earn quick money. Finally, after much money spent, time lost and heightened frustration, they conclude, erroneously I might add, that there's got to be a magic bullet and they're going to find it if it kills them.
You would think that they would stop but their pursuit of a life of ease in affiliate marketing was promised by the many gurus who say they're making huge sums of money doing almost nothing. The real truth of the matter is that truly successfully business people or educators or athletes or scientists all know one thing; they got to where they are through continuous, systematic, goal oriented, vision driven, committed, determined work. Nothing else worked for them and nothing else will work for those pursuing the dream of becoming successful internet marketers. Nothing!!
Now that that's settled, let's take a look at a few things necessary for the new internet affiliate marketer to know. Education is one of the keys to successful internet marketing. Under education one of the first things to discover is the most common mistakes new affiliates make in their pursuit of amassing internet riches.
Just as in any other business, there are do's and don’ts and principles governing the initiation, operation and ensuing outcome from affiliate marketing. All are weighted differently in their role of helping you earn online but each is very important to the ultimate outcome.
Four Common Mistakes to Avoid!
• Don't skip getting educated on how to create great websites/blogs with great content for your visitors on the products they want to purchase.
Creating appealing websites/blogs that showcases pertinent information on the products your visitors want to purchase is an invitation to trust you and buy your product(s). They'll want to be kept abreast of the latest changes, most recent facts and be assured that they are getting a great deal if they buy from you.
Keep it simple, appealing, inviting, honest and informative. Updating your blogs or websites often allows your visitors to build a relationship with you that will have a long-lasting effect on your ability to reach them again and again with affiliate offers that meets their needs.
• Avoid the temptation to skip learning what search engines are and how they work.
While getting good products to market is very important to online affiliate marketers, getting to know how to use the internet properly in your business is extremely important to the whole stream of things. One of the most important things to get to know in affiliate marketing is what search engines are and do, how to use them, what the data means that you get from your search and how to effectively use it to market your product.
Since advertising is important to every business, whether brick and mortar or online, your best online friend is the search engines. As you become more familiar with them and their capabilities, you'll see why studying how best to use this tool for affiliate marketing will enrich you more than you could have ever guessed.
• Don't think for your visitors; let them tell you what they need and then supply it.
You would think that this would be simple but many times new affiliate marketers operate under the mistaken assumption that if they like “it” - whatever “it” is - then their visitors will like it and buy it. Not so. Your website / blog visitors want what they want and not what you want to give or sell them. That's one reason why getting to know how to use the search engines is so important. Your prospective visitors will tell you what they want; you will then just have to supply it for them.
When you find out from them what they want then it is up to you to write great articles to tell them the story about the product they want with an invitation – what is called a “call to action” - to purchase the product from you. The more answers you give them to their questions (build trust), the sooner they will make a decision to take out their credit card to buy from you on the spot. That's the ultimate aim of every internet marketer, affiliate or otherwise.
• Resist limiting yourself to offering your visitors just one affiliate product.
Many successful affiliate marketers leverage their exposure to their visitors and customers to gain greater income by offering them companion products to their purchases. For instance, if your visitor turned customer purchased a new computer from you, they may also need a new printer or software. Offering them a great deal on these items may move them to purchase these from you as well.
Offering companion products gives them added purchase choices and makes them think about what other needs they may have. Therefore, promoting more than one product opens the door for you to satisfy multiple needs of your customers while building your income incrementally and exponentially over time.
Although promoting several companion products often increases your profit margin, be careful not to offer too many. Doing so often confuses some customers and stops them from making any purchase at all. You'll do well when you stay with just two or three at the most companion or complimentary products.
